…the love of your place, of your land, of the landscape that has contributed to you as a person.
In April 2013, Mora became the first county in the United States to ban hydraulic fracturing (fracking). Their community rights-based ordinance is being challenged in federal court and communities across the nation are watching.
Rooted Lands witnesses predominantly Hispanic rural villages in New Mexico (labeled as among the poorest in the United States) stand up and speak out against one of the world’s most powerful industries. Faced with the threat of natural gas development in these pristine landscapes, citizens rise up to defend the richness of their culture, their heritage, and their place.
The documentary also explores how industry has affected residents in the San Juan Basin/Four Corners Area (where New Mexico, Colorado, Utah and Arizona meet) who live in full field fossil fuel development.
